Concrefacts
Comprehensive Studio, Spring 2019
This studio seeks for the simultaneous use of hands-on and intuitive exploration of the possibilities of concrete. The goal is to enable students to acquire the ability to critically engage a conceptual idea through the design process and to provide a compelling spatial configuration in response to the required programmatic components. Students are challenged to initiate, synthesize and complete imaginative, thoughtful and resolved architectural projects.
There is a special emphasis on learning through making. Students are asked to make speculative and mock up concrete models to learn from the material itself and get familiar with its manipulation, properties and limitations. Including exploration in the making of concrete mixes, different types of aggregates, pigments and reinforcing, as well as different techniques of formwork making and concrete pouring.
