Concrete flux
Comprehensive Studio, Spring 2014
This studio investigates the essence of concrete, its properties and applications. Concrete was used as the primary constituent material of the project, including the structure (columns, beams, bearing walls and slabs), envelope (skin), finishes (flooring and ceiling) and any other building component of the project. Students are challenged with the use of hands-on and intuitive exploration of the possibilities of the material.
The program included the design of the Limestone Research Center (LRC) and the Center for Concrete Studies (CCS) in St. Louis. The site is located at the Cortex Innovation Community (CIC) District. Cortex is the Midwest’s premier hub of bioscience and technology research, development, commercialization, entrepreneurship and academic innovation in many fields.
