Hybrid Urban Bioscapes - Concrete Pavers

The aim of this project is to increase the quality of life in Old North St. Louis (ONSL)neighborhood via a specific eco-urbanism strategy on an existing vacant lot.

We designed and constructed molds to build concrete pavers and produced a plaza –including a gathering space -and sidewalk for the neighbors to engage in community activities. We used a grid to determine the layout of hardscapes on siteneeded. Hardscapes offer opportunities for recreation and leisure for both children and adults in the neighborhood. To accommodate different uses, we have designed five concrete pavers, each with increasing porosity based on their functions: walking, biking, playing, planting, etc.
